Corporations Division

« Back to Glossary Index

Many states have a Corporations Division, often within the Secretary of State’s office, dedicated solely to business entities. This division maintains the business registry, processes filings, and issues compliance notices. It is the office you interact with most frequently as an LLC owner. The Corporations Division also handles name searches and availability checks. Checking their database is often the first step when forming an LLC.
